Gloucester. Very Happy

The Guildhall would be great and it has a lovely bouncy floor! (Assuming you want to move more into "proper" small(ish) venues and away from pubs??)

EDIT: There is a bar! Wink

Reading

Several venues of different sizes The Hexagon
South Street Arts Centre
Rising Sun Arts Centre
Reading UNi Students Union
Town Hall
lots of pubs (in particular I think the Red Lion Southampton St (very appropriate for you!) and the Fisherman's Cottage and the Jolly Anglers (both on Kennetside though both a bit small) do live music)

Obviously I would love a "on my doorstep" gig............Hoots again??

I know I said this on FB, but I think you have to get yourselves to King Tuts in Glasgow. It's where bands like Oasis and that were discovered and I know a local band up here did a gig there last month, and have been rebooked to go back down in October. It's, apparently, the place where music lovers go to hear new bands.

Get yourselves a spot at one of the UK music festivals, that way you can reach out to thousands of people who have never heard you before! Belladrum is a great musical event and is well attended and I can just see you guys on the main stage!!! Joe Gibbs (he's onFB) is your man!!

The Grand, Clitheroe, a cinema conversion developed and run by a charitible trust. This autumn, there is Wishbone Ash, Shooglenifty, Blazin Fiddles, Ashley Hutchins and Ken Nichol from Steel Eye Span, Geno Washington and Steve Mason from the Beta Band. A rare and diverse selection!

Audiences range from 100 to 400, sometimes seated, sometimes tables, sometimes standing, depending on ticket sales. It's an ultra modern venue with sprung floor, bar and even a recording studio! I'm a volunteer there and get in for free!

That'd be tempting providence just too far - you know how Coast and snow go together.... Twisted Evil much safer when there's less chance of them being responsible for blocked roads and deep snowdrifts.

Re: PLACES YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE COAST ??

Post  Spud on Thu 13 Jan 2011 - 20:18

The Duchess, York (same place as Fibbers, Stonebow in York) is also a good venue. I went there to see Seth Lakeman.

York is slightly dearer than anywhere else in Yorkshire but it is a nostalgic city. Most B&B only take bookings for 2 nights or more but, if you time the gig right, you could get a 3 for 2 offer on the digs.............which would allow for a meet up the next day. Tiz and I were talking about this recently in Glasgow (It's Tiz's idea, not mine) and we both became very excited at the thought.

What makes York an ideal venue though is it's transport infrastructure. Because York is set on the East Coast main line, accessibility is quite good. Parking on the other hand may be an issue.

I do believe also that the old theatre in York has, or is, being purchased and redeveloped. Whether it will still be a possible venue or not though, I'm not sure of. I will keep you posted on any further developments about this.

There are smaller halls at Sheffield's City Hall, not sure what they are used for though. There are other venues around Sheffield such as the O2, Leadmill etc.

Further to my last post, York Barbican will reopen in May 2011 (box office open from this month) after a 2 million redevelopment [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
