Runrig to play Heb Fest
One of Scotland's most renowned Gaelic music artists, Runrig, has been confirmed to play at this year's Hebridean Celtic Festival. The news comes as the band is listed as one of the festival's first inductees to its new Hall of Fame.
This year is the festival's 15th anniversary and it will see Runrig's first performance there since 2005, and their major Scottish summer show for 2010. The four days of music, which takes place in Stornoway and surrounding communities (14th-17th July), will culminate in Runrig headlining the programme on the Saturday night.
The anniversary also brings the inception of the Hebridean Celtic Festival Hall of Fame. Festival Director Caroline MacLennan said: "We are delighted to be announcing Runrig for our programme this year, and our Hall of Fame. They will not only provide our audience with a fabulous night out, but they will act as HebCelt ambassadors, taking our reputation as a fantastic festival to other musicians and audiences around the world.
"We are also inducting the renowned Gaelic singer Julie Fowlis and the innovative Peatbog Faeries. All three have been selected for their commitment to our festival, and because of the superb shows each have delivered for our audiences over the years. We are very grateful to have their consent in furthering the good name of the Hebridean Celtic Festival and the stage is well set for a stunning event in July."
Calum Macdonald of Runrig said: "Runrig are absolutely delighted to be returning to the Hebridean Celtic Festival, particularly as this is its 15th anniversary.
"The last time we played there it was one of our most enjoyable concerts ever.
"The HebCelt is special - it's so good to see a festival of this calibre rooted in the heart of the Gaidhealtachd.
"We are honoured to have been asked to act as their ambassadors."
Julie Fowlis said: "Being from the Outer Hebrides I have always been particularly excited about playing at the HebCelt Festival. To now be inducted into their Hall of Fame as an ambassador and for recognition of my performances there is an honour. I am looking forward to spreading the message that this is a great festival."
Peter Morrison of the Peatbog Faeries said: "This is an honour to be involved with HebCelt in such a way. It is excellent news to be selected and we're proud to be one of the first three inductees for the Hall of Fame."
Tickets for this year's anniversary festival go on sale in the spring.
