COAST - The next album
Ok...no doubt the band are starting to form some ideas for the next album (whenever that may be coming out!) but if if was down to you what type of album would you like to see them make?
Something along the same lines as their debut?
Something rockier/heavier?
Something mellower?
More traditional Celtic influence? (bagpipes etc)
Less traditional Celtic influence?
Something completely different?!
What do you reckon?
I'm thinking along the lines of "a bit heavier perhaps, but retaining same level of Celtic instrumentation and arrangements". I think songs like The Sword Dance (a firm live favourite) fit this criteria.
cheers,
martin

Re: COAST - The next album
A little bit heavier would be the right for me, and I think with the demo of Docks of my hometown they are on the "right" way (for my liking).
Another preference would be also LONG songs (like America) with endless guitar or pipe (?) solos. The "celtic instrumentation" is a must criteria.
But in the end a good mixture like on the debut album is the right way.
Matthias.

I don't like it too heavy. It gives me headache and I just switch off to the songs.

Re: COAST - The next album
I must say that although the next album is still months away I'm already buzzing about the next one. Lots of hard work and tours to do before then.
I think something along the lines of the first but a bit heavy.
Probably just 1 instrumental with Tam on pipes and Paul on piano
The new 4/5 months I'm sure we will see 3/4 new songs in the live set and that will help to the way the next album goes.
Lots to look forward to

Re: COAST - The next album
Fair point Spud. I think it's an interesting balancing act for the band. There will still he a blend of ballads, instrumentals, Celtic influences and rockier stuff as far as I'm aware. I just think a few of the rockier tracks may just be a little bit more like Springsteen than, say, Runrig. A bit 'grittier' perhaps is a better word?Spud wrote:I don't like it too heavy. It will still be melody driven though

I think the got the mix right on Coast. Perfect for me! So I'd go for more of the same please! If I had to choose to sway one way though I'd always go for rockier rather than folksy!

Re: COAST - The next album
I would rather go for the more rockier way then becoming too traditional but in any case with the celtic influence (instruments...).
Maybe 2 ballads, 2 instrumentals ( one with bagpipes), 1 hymn, the rest rockier and "heavier" tracks.
What about one song with some choir as background? Could be interesting.

Re: COAST - The next album
Along the lines of 'The Sword Dance' (which I am still struggling to find a recording).
I think the more haunting Celtic sound, with some great 'Mr Lappage' guitar work.
Guys your just great anyway, just keep it very much same same.

Re: COAST - The next album
I want it rocky but strong celtic sound we need an anthem with a chorus to get people roused and can chant along too, in short a beat the drum. I love the demo of docks of my hometown. The sword dance is fantastic. And we made it is going to be a favourite though this one could be really heavy. It needs to have a local theme as well as the other topics for songs. An iconic sothern land mark for the reubhal treatment and Glastonbury has a real celtic theme with its avalon and Knig Arthur themes. And the hordes still mass there to pay homage to bands and superstition.
Colours with a tweaking of the words to appeal to other fans and could have the anthem we are talking about maybe relating to flags as well as sport etc we all need our colours.
You need ballads to break up the mix and an instrumental with tam is essential. I suggest sepia eyes its a song that has got a lot of my daughters talking about Coast.
I like Coast raw rocky and passionate its got the mix of local and further a field topics. The debut album is superb and is nearly perfect. The double america is the only minor downer.
I reckon a 13 or 14 track cd would be good but suggest the great crowd and sepia eyes goes on then folk who have the ep will not feel cheated. A 14 track cd will be a major selling point and you have two all be it oldies already in the bag for it.
So we have
We made it
Docks of my home town
the sword dance
sepia eyes
the great crowd
colours
that leaves 8 spaces for the bands wonderful work and album sorted.

Re: COAST - The next album
The thought of another 5/6 Coast songs still out there waiting to be written or demoed is quite exciting, we certainly have something exciting to look forward to for the next album.

Hi together,
have just joined this forum 3 days ago, got the debut-album 4 days ago, and I must say I LOVE IT
I'm really looking forward to hear (and hopefully see ) more and I hope that Coast stay in the line to the debut album, for me it's the absolute perfect mixture of rocksongs and slowlier melodical parts, the celtic influence in the songs is without fail really important for me...
cheers, Nicole
